Peter and the Wolf
Peter and the Wolf is a popular ballet for all ages, based on Sergei Prokofiev’s 1936 musical tale. Created to introduce children to orchestral instruments through storytelling, each character is represented by a distinct instrument: Peter (strings), a blue bird (flute), a duck (oboe), a cat (clarinet), a wolf (horns), and the grandfather (bassoon). The story follows young Peter, who bravely ventures beyond his garden gate and outsmarts a sly wolf with the help of his animal friends.
Les Patineurs (The Skating Party)
Les Patineurs is a joyful one‑act divertissement and has been a beloved part of the GNBC repertoire since 1971. The ballet depicts a Victorian skating party on a winter’s evening, where townspeople gather at a frozen pond to glide, jump, and spin across the ice in lively combinations. As snow begins to fall and twilight settles over the scene, the skaters realize their festive winter gathering must come to an end.
Jewel Fairies
Jewel Fairies is a sparkling divertissement from the famous ballet The Sleeping Beauty. In Act III, during the grand celebration of Princess Aurora’s wedding, fairies representing precious gems (Emerald, Sapphire, Amethyst, and Diamond) arrive to dance at the celebration. Originally choreographed by Marius Petipa to the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky for the Imperial Ballet in 1890, The Sleeping Beauty has remained a cornerstone of classical ballet for more than 125 years. This staging of Jewel Fairies marks the first time the Greater Niagara Ballet Company has brought this enchanting piece to the stage.
The Greater Niagara Ballet Company’s production of Fables & Frost is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
