The Greater Niagara Ballet Company is excited to announce the start of our new Collaborative Choreography Collective.
What does this collective do? We will work on contemporary choreography in a collaborative manner. This can include task-driven methods of choreography, alternating choreographers, or talking/dancing through ideas as a group to produce more ideas and all sorts of new dance pieces.
Who can join? Dancers 18+ who have trained at the advanced level in any genre of dance (note that pointe expertise is not required). The collective may be of particular interest for dancers and/or choreographers who have graduated from a dance university or college program who live in the WNY area or for those who may have aged out of other performance opportunities and are looking for a creative space to dance, practice and perform.
When does the collective meet? Our first meetings will take place over Summer 2022. The meetings immediately follow our intermediate/advanced ballet workshops on July 10th, July 24th, and August 27th. There is an additional session on 8/14 as there is no session after the workshop the prior week. The collective will meet from 12:15 – 1:30pm on these dates and those who can make most of these sessions have the option of taking the 11am summer ballet workshop free of charge. We hope to continue the collective into the Fall.
Does the collective perform? We plan to start performing sometime in early 2023.
